1993 cavalier transmission help

While driving my car, whenever I go to accelerate I need to let off the gas a little because the car sputters before it shifts into the next gear. Otherwise I rev the engine. I put transmission fluid in it, and it seemed to help, but still did it a few times (I drive 60 miles total to and from work). So I'm thinking it must either be leaking fluid, or that my timing is off. When I look under the car though, I see no puddles or any signs of leakage, so if it is leaking it has to be while i'm driving it (the car starts to shake a lot as i get up to around 60 or faster mph). I took it to a mechanic and he told me that the wires to the transmission from the engine were faulty, causing it to not know when to shift properly. Any insight into this problem is greatly appreciated!

Re: 1993 cavalier transmission help

Your mechanic may be right but it is not electrical wires. This car does not have a computer controlled tranny. It is a kick down cable, it goes from the throttle body to the tranny. It could be sticking. I would try a fluid and filter change. A plugged filter can cause the problem you describe. This is also the cheapest fix. Good Luck.

Re: 1993 cavalier transmission help

i had the same problem but only it got worse, causing damage to the transmission. I then had to go through hours of labour replacing it. heh.
