Hello all ! - newbie to the grand am forum - had a jeep GC for a while but sold it for the grand am

I have owned for a bout a month now and have a few questions..

1 ) whats the normal gas milage on a full tank im at @ 290 or so .. with air on conisistantly - s florida - highway city mixed driving.

2) I am noticing an odd hesitiation everyonce in while when i am doing normal driving with air on or off . I can be driving and will notice a drop in engine revs ( small ) - lack of power. also whein i hit the gas it will not "GO"..

Re: odd hesitation / gas milage ?

1) depends on how big the tank is. My 3.4 gets around 25mpg thats town and highway driving w/AC on. I only hav a 12 gal tank(250-300 miles)so I dont carry excessive weight in fuel.

2) Try some injector cleaner and change ur air filter and oil regularly. If this doesnt cure the hesitation may try some new plugs and wires. Not alot should be wrong on such a new caar w/low miles.

Re: odd hesitation / gas milage ?

my 3.4 GT with a 14 gallon tank gets about 26 avg between mostly freeway driving and a little city driving. That adds up to roughly 360 miles per tank.

It sounds like you might be running rich, Dulrich. Do the stuff Xero said, and you might want to look into a new TPS or a new IAT sensor - both of these could be causing the rich conditions, brining about your bad mileage / hesitation. I was having hesitation issues, and after I replaced my bad TPS on my 01 GT, I got slightly better mileage, plus obviously eliminating the hesitation.

XI, did you have a 12 gallon tank installed? Or is that what is stock on the SE's?

Re: odd hesitation / gas milage ?

12 gal was stock i guess. the manual that comes in the glove box says 12 or 18gal. I hav ran it empty before too and it took 12 gals, it was about runing out the neck. Been waiting for my fuel pump to go out so i can fix the stupid float inside the tank. Its not broken just reads screwwy all the time. Probley the floats sitting on that plastic square in the tank.

Re: odd hesitation / gas milage ?

They are easily changed. TPS's last a long time, but weather(rain/snow Hot/cold) effects the duration of the TPS's life. Being an 01 with low miles I would not think it would be bad already, but their is exceptions to the rule, its electrical so they could go anytime really.
