Boring out a 250

I am going to turbo charge my 250ci. Now before you ask "why waste time on a 250" let me answer. Because I can, and why not. It's a cheap motor, tough as dirt, tourque up the yin-yang, and plenty of potential. Plus how many turbo l6's do you see, not many. Any ways to get the the heart of the matter: I saw a motor called the 292 l6... now is that a bored out 250? or a separate motor? If it is a separate motor, can you bore out a I6, and if so is it structuraly wise? If not I don't care, I am perfectly content with it just being line-bored and remaining a 250. Also for any of you who know 250's that whining sound that you get it higher RPM's... it thats the timing gears? the cam? or a combination of the two? And if it is...how can I make it LOUDER. My neighbor has some after market cam gear set-up on his 427 and it has this sexy whine to it even in idle.

The 292 is the same family as the 250 but gets it's extra cubes from a longer stroke. I don't believe the 292 crank will fit in the 250 block.

Your not the only one who thinks building up an inline 6 is cool. I've seen some bad ass 6's that could run 12 or 13 seconds in the quarter mile; certainly quick enough to embarrass many V-8's, even plenty of big blocks! I say go for it. A book like this will help answer most technical questions on what fits and what works best. Good luck and keep us posted.

10 seconds at 137 mph right out of the box and shooting for 8's with tuning. Yes it is highly modified but it only proves that these motors do have plenty of potential. A milder street set up could still smoke plenty of unsuspecting V-8's! Way cool.
