My 1999 concorde lxi just did the following: overheat while driving (and while parked), with and without AC on -- overheated to red zone and spewed freon (lots of freon jetted out in a fast spray) from outlet valve on back of compressor. I have no idea what happened to cause this. Any ideas??

Re: 99 concorde lxi overheat, spewing freon
sounds like your cooling fans quit working on your and your high side temps on your A/C system temps & pressure got so high that they blew out the freon. Your cooling fans serve two purposes, 1) draw out fresh air in front of the radiator to cool down the coolant to provide proper convection. 2) bring cool air over the condensor to provide proer heat exchange. If that heat exchange never occurs, (high side temps/pressures can be as high as 300 psi) your pressure goes up and there's a pressure relief valve somewhere in the system that blows out the excess pressure to prevent an explosion, in this case on top of your compressor. You'll need to first get your cooling fans fixed before trying to recharging your system.
