engine racing very high on start up - PLEASE HELP?
Hi. i have a Renault 5 GTS with carb problem - i think?
When started up the engine races very fast, the carb seems to be OK (although i'm no expert), both the accelerator and clutch BITS (i dont know the technical terms for them) are free and moving back to the idle position correctly, so i believe they are not the cause. The carb is a Weber 32 drt 15/101 (make's no sense to me). Any ideas? Cheers Ardene. |

Just about all cars have an idle speed adjuster. Well, all fuel injected ones do. But import carb'd engines, I'm not sure.
I'm a small go-kart engine carb master, not import carb. But anyway, get a repair manual to find out where yours is, if you have one. It's usually a screw that's sometimes covered with something (rubber thingy). A repair manual is good to get anyway. If you don't have an adjuster, you might have your air/fuel ratio wrong. Hook up an O2 sensor and gauge from JCWhitney.com and that will eliminate the guesswork. By the way, nice choice of car. What year? British, right?

IS it fuel injection or is it old style weber carburetor. On the carb there should be a little screw that adjusts the idle speed find it and turn it.
