91 park ave. brake problem
The brakes were bad and the Master Cylinder leaked. Replaced the mc and bled it properly(bench). Installed it and bled the brakes. 4 months later, the pedal travels too much. Re-bled the brakes but no air (and the pedal pumps-up). Do I have to do something to the ABS system? When the key is off, the brakes feel great. When it is on, the brakes are horrible. Thanks for the help.

Re: 91 park ave. brake problem
If you are sure there is no air, check the rear brake shoe adjustment.

I've gone thru 3 MC's on my 92' so far (8 yrs. - alot of stop and go, mostly stop). I totally ignored the ABS and proceeded as normal. I just "bench bled" the MC (hooked it up to the booster and left the lines disconnected, leveled out the car and bled it the MC, connected my lines and was on my way).
new parts go bad too. |

Re: 91 park ave. brake problem
Long brake pedal travel, but otherwise OK brakes are a sign that the automatic adjustor on one or more rear brakes is out of adjustment.

I re-adjusted the shoes. No help. Everytime I check the fluid, the rubber nipple is completely pulled out. BTW, the peddle is travelling to the floor and I have to pump it up to be able to stop. Any ideas?

Re: 91 park ave. brake problem
It sounds like your four month old master cylinder has failed. If it was a rebuilt unit, that is not uncommon. If it had a warrantee, take it back and get another one. I never had much luck with rebuilt parts!

Re: 91 park ave. brake problem
hi there, newbie here. I too have a 92 pa and the break pedal travels to the floor, so icome to the conclusion that i need an new mc. My question is can the breaks be bled afterwards manually,(pshing the break down and releasing the air from bleed valve) or is there another procedure required on this also. tyvm in advance.
