Headlight Trouble

I recently purchased a Dodge 2002 Grande Caravan and since I purchased it the headlamps have been nothing but trouble.

What happens is, the passenger front running light will be on, then when I go to dims, the driver light will come on and the passager off, then when I go to brights the passanger will come back on, but the drivers will go back off. Basically I am always driving with one light off and one on all the time.

Now I have taken this in and so far the Front Control Module (FCM) was replaced and this fixed the problem for a about two weeks, then the lights started acting up again. So I took it back in and they said they replaced the bulbs etc but this did not fix the problem either... Then I took it back in and they said I had a loose connection with the wires from the FCM and dirty sensors with the daytime running lights. This also worked for about two weeks but the lights are again acting up same as before, and I'm taking it back in tomarrow.

So is there anyone out there that has experienced this before and had it fixed once and for all?? Anybody that could shed some light on the problem and give me a clue where to suggest the mechanic go to fix the problem?

One more thing-- All four times I have taken the van into a certified service outlet at a Dodge dealership so the "experts" have been working on it the problem the entire time but can't seem to solve it---

Any ideas??

Thanks,
C

I've seen this problem a few times in here but never saw anyone post the fix. You said the voltages aren't the same. What were they and on what side? And does everyone have the daytime running lights?

Re: Headlight Trouble

have someone check the wiring. they're double filament bulbs so there should be 2 sets of wires going to each bulb, could be someone screwed up the wiring when they installed it

The voltage on the right(passenger) was about 2.5 VDC, on the left,(driver) it was about 8 VDC.

Nothing scientific about this response, but the front control module has 4 12 volt inputs from the battery. At the front control module check pins 1,2,9,38 to see if they all have 12 volts to ground.

Re: Headlight Trouble

I had a similar problem with a '00 GC.
Turned out that the socket had partially melted and the ground for the bulb no longer made contact. I ended up replacing the socket. Now.. the reason the socket melted...After-market non-DOT approved blue lamps I bought off of E-Bay.

My only suggestion at this point is to get a reliable electrical diagram and verify each wire from point a to point b all the way through the lighting circuit. Alldata.com comes to mind but will cost you $25.00
I have diagrams for a 2001 GC if you would like them. I don't know if they will be the same.

Re: Headlight Trouble

I am having the same problem w/ my 01 Dodge Grand Caravan...have read to replace battery - which we did...only fixed problem for a day or 2. If anyone can send me the electrical diagram it would be much appreciated. The dealer chuckled and said "it could be wiring" -- like "GOOD LUCK!"
Thanks!
