Smile Water Pump Installation

Hi. Thinking of replacing my Venture 98's water pump. What do I have to go through replacing it? Thanks.

Re: Water Pump Installation

I don't know the differences between a 98 and a 99 but on my 99 it was the easiest water pump replacement I ever did (I have only done 3 mind you).

Assuming the 98 is the same:

The pump is simply the plate that includes the impeller and pulley. You need to the following:

Drain coolant
remove serpentine belt
remove the five bolts
remove pump
Clean mating surface
Install gasket and dressing on pump surface (note there is only one correct orientaion - holes are not all equidistant)
install pump and bolts
re-install belt
fill coolant.

I may have removed some stuff near the battery for better access - I can't remember

Re: Water Pump Installation

IIRC, on my 98 I had to remove the pully first to gain access to the bolts holding the waterpump on. But the above instructions is about it.
