Car alarm

BlazerLT,

Noticed your name alot on this forum so I figure you must have an answer to my problem.

We bought our blazer new in 2000 and in '02 my wife was driving it and it died before she left the neighborhood. She called onstar they took it to the local dealership and they determined the battery was bad and replaced it with another AC Delco battery for free since it was under warranty.

Sometime since then a few electric problems have occured. Only the driver can roll down a window from their door console and the dome light does not come on when the car is not started and the door is open and randomly the panic alert (horn) will go off for about 2 minutes then stop regardless if you manually lock the doors from the driver's door console or if you use the remote.

In addition, I had to replace the battery (this was done 3 days ago) due to the amount of corrision that was on the positive terminal. When I was removing the bolt to take the cable off and clean the end, the entire terminal came out with the bolt! This would explain why I had to get a jump Sunday night which took a while once the guy manuevered the jumper cables clamps to the correct position.

I thought the new battery would end the electric problems, but it did not.

That being said, not sure if there is a relationship with the electric problems and the battery or something else.

Thank you for your time and I hope you can help.

Thanks,

Re: Car alarm

This problem has been fixed since I made this post originally in Jan '05.

Here was the problem:
When the dealership replaced the battery the second time, the positive battery cable bolt was tighten too much causing the metal female end of the battery to separate from the battery itself. The metal female end is enclosed in the plastic casing of the battery. I would assume this was the problem the first time they replaced the battery.
This separation caused a weak connection between the battery and the positive cable. I would assume the alarm is sensitive enough to pick this up and determine it is in panic mode.

The fix:
Purchased a battery from a local parts store and installed it myself.

Now the alarm doesn't go off at random times.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks

I am sorry I didn't respond to you the last time. It was during the holidays and it must have slipped through my radar.

Glad to see everything is fixed.

Re: Car alarm

Not a problem.

It was actually my fault. I didn't post this to the main Blazer forum.

Thank you for the reply.
