'98 intermittent start "fix"
When our '98 4.6L started not starting all the time, i was determined to figure out what was going on, i found more than just that problem though. I found one of the wires going from the alternator to the battery that passes by the starter relay pinched between two mounting brackets and grounding out. this would explain why our alternator, battery and starter relay got wiped out. now we're back to the "won't start after short drives" this is simply bypassed by shorting the two posts on the starter relay together while the key is in the "accessories" position. although a very temporary fix, it will keep you from having to be towed. i have a theory that i'll try when i come up with $100 extra dollars, and that's to try a ford spec. battery. my theory is that there is a voltmeter of sorts that tells when the battery is safe to use to start the car and if the tolerances are off on the aftermarket battery, or each cell isn't over a certain amount, the car "senses" the under-voltage and refuses to start. just a theory though. i'll let you know if it works, good luck with the cruse control recalls!
