No Daytime running or Bright Lights

Help!!! I have a 2000 sunfire it has approx 85,000 miles. 4 weeks ago I noticed when I started my car on the dash panel which shows my day time lights are on, flicker a bunch of times and then immediately goes into service. I have no Day time running lights or Bright Lights. The car is running fine, I do have regular lights. Every time I start my car and put the car into reverse or drive it will flicker and go into service. If I turn my lights on put the car into reverse or drive it does NOT flicker and go into service. I do have turn signals and back lights it just seems that only my front lights are not working correctly. I have had the bulbs checked they are fine, I also checked the fuses and the circuts. If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it.
Thank you.

Daytime Running Lights

Hi,
I have a 98 Sunfire and the same prob developed. It's a short in the light wiring harness somewhere. The light in the dash is the daytime running light indicator and mine would flash until i turned the lights on. I did not get the service light come on tho. I was directed by the service manager at a local dealership to check the wiring harness from the block below the battery (right, front) to where it passes through the chassis underneath the battery tray. I did replace those wires myself and some of the problem disappeared but i still dont have my DRL.
I hope this at least points you in the right direction.
