How has your GT-R experience been so far.

How has everyones experiences been with there GT-R's

Owning a GT-R has not always been a cake walk, at least for me.

"With great power comes great responsibilty." Someone once said.

I've had my GT-R for almost 3 years now and almost instantly you are propelled to a different level once you have 1.

Most of my experiences have been good I've made a lot of new friends, meet a lot of people I wouldn't have, had I not had it. I've also see some extraordinary things done and accomplished over the last few years with the cars here in the U.S.

I never knew how much attention it would draw. Both good and bad.
Sometimes the attention can be a real pain in the azz. I've had people follow me home trying to figure out where i live and wanting to look at the car. Cops following me and pulling me over to figure out what type of car it is.

I'd have to say the most difficult part would be dealing with the parts and the time it takes to get them and people trying to rip me off just because I have a skyline. Most of them have been local company's.

The stupid questions hit an all time high for me on this car, "is that a real skyline" or "why do you have the steering wheel on the wrong side", can "i get a ride". Or lets race.

My answers usually go "read the License plate" (Real GTR), and because I lost the steering wheel for the left side. Hell no u can't get a ride you aren't paying any bills and If it's a hot slut she sure you can ride, me.

Sometimes that works! Yes a GT-R will get you laid!

I'd like to go 1 week, let alone 1 day where someone won't try to get me to race.

Insurance is not easy to come by, it's expensive as hell for me i'm constantly having to fight for coverage.

I've had a lot of help along the way with out them a lot of this would not be possible. Thank you to everyone that has given me advise over the years Sean, Toshi, Wen, Eric, Razor, Mario and many others.

Re: How has your GT-R experience been so far.

so far so good. my car rarley gets driven though, its not a daily driver like some. and unfortunatly i dont have a garage, so i have a rented garage in an undisclosed location somewhere in the seattle area. theft is a big concern for me, so when i do decide to pick the car up and take it for a drive, my girlfriend drives me down there to get the car, and noone else. ive heard horror stories from other owners on the east coast. one in particular, who had his dash completly ripped out and the windows smashed after he had it parked by valet.

other than theft issues, the car is a real head turner. like you, i get the same questions (is it real, why is it RHD, and the most common..lets race). i do occasionaly race it, but its always been at the track. i dont need any unnecessary attention drawn to the car. as wierd of a comparison as this might sound....its like owning an integra type R. anywhere i park it, as soon as i walk ten feet away there will be a crowd of people around the car, staring at it and leaving their stupid little nose/finger prints on the car. so far so good, i say. most people just need to realize that its just a car. its not some god, or some sort of royalty. its a car, just one you dont see everyday. i have gotten pulled over a few times in it by cops that just want to see it up close. cops appreciate the car just as much as the people i see on the street.

anyways, cheers .

Since I've had the car everyone thinks I'm an expert at knowing all the import laws and what modd's need to be done to the car. I've had person after person ask me, e-mail me for help in getting a skyline weather it be legal or not.

I know how Sean feels now. Sometimes it's like talking to a brick wall, I guess the truth hurts.

And like you Nismo to me it's just a car hell I even go get grocery's in it.

I am not an expert as far as every single detail of the importation laws go, but i do know the laws very well as far as what can and cant be done legally, and how things must be done. i know a few of the modifications aside from what is already public knowledge (windshield, stickers, headlights), but not everything. instead of explaining the laws to them, and how to do things the right way, i just tell them to talk to motorex. thats it. thats what it all boils down....talk to motorex as they are the only ones who can (could) bring them in legally.

Re: Re: How has your GT-R experience been so far.

Well, it's good to see that I'm not the only one that drives down to the 7-11/grocery store in a GTR just to satisfy my nicotine urges. Although I will have to admit that with gas costs these days and an incomplete tune in the car, I had to get a real grocery getter.

Yeah, parts definitely, and if it's your only car(like it was for me for about nine months), getting the opportunity to work on it is just about impossible. *sigh* I miss SoCal for that very reason.

Re: How has your GT-R experience been so far.

My experience so far has not been great. The MAF's on the car are garbage I have 2 more on the way from an Infinity. But I don't think they will fit. There is nothing more embarassing than pulling off at a light and having your car start puttering out on you. maybe once this issue is addressed I will have something possitive to post in this thread.

Not to hop off topic but, I had some 300Z MAF's I could have sold you with part of the apex super suction kit.

Anyone else have insite on there experience let's keep this going.
