'98 Grand Am Electrical issues

My car is a '98 Grand Am with over 140k miles. Tonight I noticed the dash lights going dim and the headlights not bright as normal. One by one the sytem warning lights came on starting with the battery light. Then the ABS light and so on. I made the mistake of turning the car off when at a stop light. It did not start again without a jump. At the first turn of the key with jumper cables attached, the car started w/ no problems. Last battery change was 6/02. Not sure what the issue is. Alternator, battery?

Re: '98 Grand Am Electrical issues

Pretty sure it'd be the Alternator... but usually the ABS light will come on before the Batt. light.

Either way... the way you described it happening sounds like the Alt. was not chargine the Battery for whatever reason.

Pull it off and take it to Disc. Auto or Autozone and they'll test it for free.

Good Luck
