Hurricane who?? *PICS*

Well, They are in mandatory evacuations an hour north of me for Hurricane Rita. Our city managers are meeting to discuss evacuation of our city (Victoria TX). You should have seen the city today, there was a mad rush on plywood, gas etc. I received so many Generator repair calls that its not even funny, I am gonna spend tomorrow raking in service calls, then thur & fri to get ready. I posted several pics when Hurricane Claudette passed directly over Victoria (2003). I am far to risky when it comes to storms, so look out for some amazing pics on this thread friday and saturday..
I will bring you the real story, forget FOX and NBC
PS We are 50' above sea level, so there shouldnt be any rooftop stuff going on here, I hope

Re: Hurricane who?? *PICS*

I really hope you and everyone down else down there comes through it OK. My sister lives in Palacios, TX. It's pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Gulf Coast, south of Galviston... smack dab in the sites of this one. The not so funny thing about that is my sister's name is Rita!!! I can't help but worry and I hope she's on her way somewhere safe.

Re: Re: Hurricane who?? *PICS*

7 Computer models put the center of the storm right through Pt. Lavaca on friday evening (5 miles from Palacios). With an eye 40 miles wide, and hurricane force winds stretching out 150+ miles, its anybody's guess. Last time that a CAT5 happened here (Carla 1961), we had 150+MPH "sustained" winds here where I am at. It is gonna be a long weekend even it gets within 200miles to us. I think they are evacuating Palacious tomorrow (Mandatorily) along with several other places. This thing may veer anywhere by then, but they are getting pretty good with these forecasts last few years. They were within 50 miles 4 days in advance with Katrina forecasts, So I am not so quick to blow off these warnings.
I will post an update on our evac situation (as well as palacios) tomorrow at 2pm CDT

??? I have lived and worked here in this town for 30+ years. I hope you are not implying that I would take advantage of my community because of a storm AND because of my trade!?!. I have been providing reliable electrical services to my friends and community as a contractor for over 5 years. I am an asset to the citizens of my community and even prevent them from having to use out-of-town scam artists during an event like this. FYI: I helped some local elderly couples get electrical service when even our city "engineers" couldnt do it after Hurricane Claudette, And I busted my ass and did it for next to nothing (less than gas money for a week), so DO NOT assume you know my angle, because I am in the business of electrical distribution.

Of course if you were "NOT" implying this, than kindly disregard my flame.

Yea man it's getting nuts. Here in Houston, I went to Sam's Club around 11 this morning, my gosh it was a mad house. I had to search to find the 16oz. bottles of water and there were only a few left. Completely out of C and D batteries (but almost endless supply of AA's).

The worst thing about this whole storm is I'm in my friends wedding this weekend....at least we're hoping it's going to happen. He and I aren't stressin', but I can only imagine his fiance freaking.

Let's just think positive and hope for the best. Let Texas show Lousiana and everyone else (well except Florida, they've got it down pat) you how to properly prepare their cities and residents for a Hurricane.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree. So far the businesses here are great, I never charge higher for service calls during an emergency like these. I usually charge way less due to the circumstances. Its good for business to do these things. There are a few "NON-U.S." owned gas stations and businesses that gouge and people know it and they are called on by federal authorities. Its sad. Yes They are usually foreigners of some kind or another. The real American's and their businesses "usually" stand out and do the right thing.

My sister lives in Houston. I talked to her last night, and she and her family have hotel reservations in Dallas for the weekend.

Well i want to wish all affected by this storm the best of luck, and hopefully there are not any great losses. I myself have been waiting for these two storms coming at Hawaii. I heard today that the one is going to miss us by 325 miles(roughly) Im not to sure about the second one but hopefully it misses too. Well again best of luck to all affected.
