Question Wierd noise, possible tranny?!?!

Ok, my jeep is freakin me out. I have a 99 Wrangler, 37k original miles. Whenever I go from stop to start and accelerate especially when shifting I get a really weird "buzzsaw" noise. Has anyone heard of this? The jeep rides fine and no major problems except for this noise. Don't know if it's exhaust related or what...any suggestions would help. I checked tranny fluid..and its full.

What exactly is the shift linkage. Is it hard to make the repair yourself? I'm going to have someone at the jeep dealership drive it tomorrow to possibly diagnose it. However, I want to do the work myself

Re: Wierd noise, possible tranny?!?!

I had the same type of thing in my cherokee, turned out to be the drivers side motor mount. To check it, open the hood, watch the engine while in drive, hold the brake and give it quite a bit of gas, while the engine is under load, if the mount is broken the engine will rise up on the drivers side, thats why it only does it when you are taking off.

Its probably something really simple. You just need to investigate a little. Find out exactly when it happens, does it happen sitting still if you rev the engine or only when youre moving. Does it happen only in drive or park (you didnt really say if you have a manual or auto). It sounds like an exhaust "buzzz" to me but without more info, its tough to tell. Crawl under and check out your exhaust hangers, grab your tail pipe and shake it to see if it bangs against anything.
Edit: Just saw that you "checked the tranny fluid". Tells me youve got an auto.
