When I hit the accelerator the truck barely moves

I have a 2001 Doge Dakota and when I hit the accelerator, the truck barely goes anywhere (maybe 10mph). It does the same in reverse as well. Help!!

Yes, you can hear the engine revving. I have a 6 cylinder 3.9 litre engine

sounds like the torque converter in the trans is not locking in or a bad speed sensor. What rpm when you are going 10 mph?

Could also be a plugged CAT, I've heard of it causing the same problem.

Not sure about the RPM. I don't want to even take it out again as this condition has worsened each time I've driven it. I'm going to tow it to the dealership.

yeah, Dakota00 is right, that cat is plugged up. Look under your truck while it's running; if it turns glowing red, that means is overheating and it's crapped out on you.

How much do you think it will cost to fix it?

Re: When I hit the accelerator the truck barely moves

Is the exhaust system stock??

If so, it wont cost you anything!! Take it to a dealership they will fix it under the emission warranty. Not many people know about this warranty which covers the truck for 8yrs.

Re: When I hit the accelerator the truck barely moves

if you get your self a vacum gauge , you can test for exhaust restriction in about 60 seconds.
