Vacuum hoses

Ok guys, I have a 1981 Chevy K10 with a 305. I have a vacuum hose which came off but don't know where it goes to. I have several PVS' on the manifold but I don't see where it would hook up to any of them. Also noticed something along top side of the valve cover which looks to be some sort of vacuum device but don't know what it is. The hose in question comes off of the left side of the motor looking back from the grill. The reason I am searching is for some reason this thing is going through spark plugs at the rate of 2 sets per year. THE GOOD SETS! Delco's. Anyway just thought maybe someone here would know what the devil that hose goes to. One other thing when I hook up the electric choke on this thing it chokes a lot. Any Ideas?

Re: Vacuum hoses

it could be any number of things, including your pcv valve, vapor canister line(i think that might actually be fuel line tho), it could also be your vacuum advance for the distributor or also your transmission modulator hose. im sure theres more im forgetting right now other than those 4 things.

as for the electric choke, it should be adjustable. my holley four barrel with an electric choke was acting up and i had to adjust it to get it to work good. it it is choking too much, then adjust it whatever direction you need to make it leaner or in laymans terms, make it so that it lets more air in sooner. the choke is operated by a coil spring and as electricity goes thru the spring it heats it up and makes it expand and the expanding spring is what makes the butterfly valve slowly open as it gets warmer and warmer. just adjust the positioning of the spring to what you need and it should work great

I bet it's the transmission modulator. Is near the Automatic Transmission dipstick so think that might be what it is. The Vac Advance is hooked up, the PVC is hooked up and the Vapor canister is hooked up so am going through a process of elemination thinking that it's the tranny modulator. Something kind of screwy though, my sister has a 305 just like mine so got to thinking about looking at that motor and her's has the same thing on it as mine and it's hooked up to that port on the carb. Only difference is that she has a manual tranny on her's. Anyway did find out where to hook it up.

Was wondering how to adjust that thing. Am thinking that this might be why my sparkplugs are burning out so quick. Am going through around a set every year or sooner. I do do a lot of in town driving but do try to get it out on the road at least once or twice a month on a good longer road trip. Usually try to take it on a 100 mile trip once a month.

Anyway thanks for the suggestions. Will try looking some of this stuff up and see what I find for it. At least I found out where the hose goes to and how to adjust that electric choke.

Red face Figured it out

Had to take the truck in to a mechanic because the starter was grinding the flywheel. Asked him what that thing was that I hooked it up to and he said "that's where it goes but you don't want it there, You want it plugged. Thats the ERG valve". In short I don't have a cat on it nor an A.I.R. pump and do not live in California so I don't need emission control. Funny thing is when I hook it up I get around 5 MPG less than what I do with it unhooked. The mechanic says that most of the power goes out the rearend when its hooked up.
