Even the best of us...

...have bad days.

After a few days after my last post, the car started overheating again. I had finally had enough. I decided to pull almost everything out from the engine bay, which the exception of the engine itself. I replaced all the hoses and clamps. Made sure everything was good and tight. Pulled out the fans and replaced the relays and cleaned and lubricated the fans. Flushed the cooling system and checked for leaks usign UV dye. Changed the thermostat and water pump, as well as the bolts that attach them. Got everything buttoned up, filled the system and began driving home. Overheated and then a low cooolant warning. When I got home noticed that it sounded like coolant was boiling. Later, when out to look at it. No coolant left in the tank. So, I went to fill it. After I had put everything bad together in the engine bay, I forgot to fully close the cap. It was half way open, and holding no pressure. No wonder the coolant all boiled away. Refilled the system and closedf the cap, no problems as of yet.

Re: Even the best of us...

It just seems that your car has more of them then everybody elses. To be honest I dont know how you seem to stay so upbeat after paying for a car that you are having so much trouble with.

Believe it or not, this is the LEAST problamatic GM I've owned. As for the reason why I'm upbeat...well, I don't know. I've got to be. It's just a car. Besides, the fact that I haven't blown it up yet makes me happy. The more I study the car, the more I understand it. These Auroras are sensitive vehicles. I'm finding that it just takes time to find people who know what they are doing. Besides, I can honestly say that compared to some of the problems others have, a little overheating is nothing to be worried about. Well, I don't mean that...what I mean is that my problem could be a lot worse than what it is. I've already ruled out a lot of bad stuff. I've used UV dyes to look for leaks. I've checked torques, run exhaust gas checks and stuff. The only freaking leaks I've found are the ones I've caused myself by not tightening clamps well enough. (I forget if I told the story of how I had a hose blow off cause I didn't tighten it.)

It all comes down to the fact that I've suffered a lot worse things in life than a misbehaving engine. Hell, four years ago I nearly died in a hospital after partying a little too much in college. A car is no reason to get too upset. It can be fixed eventually. It may just take some time. I dunno, it may just be the fact that I've inhaled a fair share of antifreeze after doing so many coolant changes in a two week period of time. Can antifreeze make people giddy?

Bottom line...I love this car so I'll deal with it. I've only seen two or three 2nd gen. auroras in my area. This car is way to unique to toss it aside. I find people everyday asking if it's a lexus or a BMW. Nice...how many GM cars can have that happen?
