1983 Ford Ranger Intermentent Starting Problems

I have a 1983 Ford Ranger, 4cyl, 2.0 engine. It is DRIVING me crazy trying to figure out what is wrong with it.. heres the history.

Start up at cold is fine, purrs like a kitten. Drive it to a store and let it set for 20 minutes, when I come back out, it won't start. Plenty of juice from the battery, just won't kick in and start. Will try to start it a few times and it wont. After I sit idle in the truck maybe 5 minutes, hit it again, fires right up and runs. This senarios have happened over and over and over. Always starting after you sit in the truck from 5-10 minutes.

New fuel filter has been put on, new fuel pump also.

One time I poured a little gasoline in the carbeuator and it started up, I was thinking after it burned up the gas it would die.. kept right on running fine.

Please give some input on this, its driving me nuts.

Yeah, sounds like there's something wrong with your fuel system pumping gas definitely. My first recommendation would be checking the fuel pump, but you've already replaced that... I'd focus on your fuel system definitely. give your carb a check, and if you can't find a problem there, work your way down. Might check out that fuel pump to make sure it was installed correctly. Check out your vacuum lines too. Lots of stuff that could be wrong. Sorry I can't be of more help.
