97 explorer,electrical problems?

Hey guys first at all i wanna say hi to u all.
Today i bought a 97 ford explorer,so sadly a few hours ago the problems has started,first the "CHECK GAGE" light comes on and after that the headlight wont shut off at all even when the switch on the console was in off position.
i had to disconect the battery,so the headlight go out,but the nxt time i start the engine and turn the lights on once again wont shut off at all and the "CHECK ENGINE" light come on.
i hope all this probs can be fixed easily,the sad part is that all this happent on my first day whit the truck.
Any help will be appreciate.(sry about my poor inglish).
