Does anyone with a 4x4 have slow engaugement into overdrive

My overdrive doesn't engauge until I drive for about 7 miles A trans shop told me I have to live with this that some trans do this?? anyone know any remedies. I am using the expensive oil. and there was no forign material in pan when I changed trans oil
