Some questions
I just have some random questions about some stuff my car is doing. Today I was sort of racing a friend a few times and there were a few weird things but they dissapeared after i parked the car for a while.
-The check engine oil light came on..and after i slowed down it sounded like a weird dripping sound(like the sound gran turismo 3-4 makes when you change the oil), so I was afraid there was a leak, but I opened the hood and there was NO leaks and i checked the level and it was still perfectly high. After parking the light turned off. -There was a weird...knocking sound(it wasn't piston slap) in neutral and going slow(like in first), it was not there at higher speeds and it completely dissapeared after maybe 2 minutes. -OK so this is a problem I've experienced on several occasions, when accelerating real fast(Wide open), I slide right through first and second real smooth, then when i try to put it into 3rd it makes a grinding noise(shakes the hell out of the shifter) and the gear wont go in until i slow way down, basically I have problems shifting into 3rd at high rpms. Is this driver error? -When i spin the tires(either gassing it too much or being stupid aka showing off) people say mad sparks come out of my rear wheels, what the hell is this? I was thinking maybe a line off a park brake or somethin Oh yes and speaking of spinning, I think i spin way too easy, is it even worth it to get wider tires or just new ones? Nothing I'm really concerned about and I'm gonna bring it in for a full inspection but I'm just wonderin if someone could at least answer a few of these, thanks you.

The shifting into 3rd trouble could be a syncro going out or already out.

Thanks for the quick replies
. Yea my friend just told me that the sparks were coming from under the tires, I thought they were coming from the inside, so I thought it sounds like the wire underneath....but I can't see any. Is it possible that I'm right down to the bottom of the rubber even though I can't see the wire underneath? I'm gonna buy new tires soon anyway as I said, hopefully that helps with spinning under acceleration and if my tires really are that worn it's not safe to drive on them.

Sounds like you're losing third to me. Does it make the noise while in gear too?
For example in mine (4 speed) after warming up, it slips out of second and grinds fourth... while in fourth you can hear a grinding noise unless you hold the gear shift back and sort of hold the gear in place. Bad synchros and worn 2nd and 4th. You can only hear the grind in 2nd and 4th at about 2800-3200 rpms. Your "Neutral slap" type noise may be your 1st and 3rd wearing... does it sound similar to the other 3rd gear grind/shake? Thing is I KNOW I need a rebuild, complete with new gears... and I think I may ust opt for a 5 speed instead, so I can get an overdrive and keep my 4.11's. |
