Not sure where its located... but I had a recall notice for my 00 Impala for that exact part. Free of charge replacement. Might want to look into that?

If you know where the PVC valve is, it's right about it, it comes off the fuel rail. It's a small cylinder with a black vacuum line coming off of it. Mine has been replaced three fricking times. Once was a recall, (2000 3.4 liter) and had it replaced. The best way to see if it's failed is to smell the vacuum line end, if you can smell gas then it needs replaced.
