700r4 doesnt have speedo drive

Ok I thought everything that had an r4 in it had a VSS this one has a gear drive. Does any know what year it could be, so that I can find a sensor to drive the speedo? Does anyone make a geardriven signal generator?

Re: 700r4 doesnt have speedo drive

Well my 89 9c1 has a 700r4 and it's a gear drive. The VSS is located in the speedo itself. Now the 700r4/4l60 sitting on my garage floor, which came out of my 92 Astro, has a VSS.

So where in there...

Re: 700r4 doesnt have speedo drive

you can convert the trans to vss. your would need the reluctor ring and the sensor. Pull the tail shaft off, remove speedo gear and clip, press the reluctor on, install vss in place of driven gear housing.

that is correct, be careful with the gear clip, it's easy to distort

to further clarify,
you would need the correct gears (see bowtie overdrives' website for a gear selection equation), the driven gear housing(two different depending on size of gears), the hold down clip (if different than the VSS one) and the drive gear retaining clip. All the trans I've seen have two clip holes in output shaft under reluctor ring (I believe the front is for the corvette output housing, the rear is for all others. Just slide the drive gear on, temporarily install the housing and make sure the gear is centered in the opening) That way you can be sure you are using the right hole.
