Check Engine Problem

I have been trying to get my car to where I can have it inspected but the engine light will not go off. I have changed a lot of stuff in the last year and finally broke down and went to the dealership and had a diognostic test ran, they told me I had to have a new cad. converter put on before he could troubleshoot it any more. So I had it done (not at the dearlership because I could save $400 at a muffler shop), this was a little over a week ago. Now the light is still on and I am being told that it is the EGR valve (which I changed last year). Only thing is, now that I changed the cad converter, my car is starting to get kinda hot. It is not overheating yet, but before it barely got hot at all, like the gauge never got half way and now it gets there real quick and stays there, and when I get out of the car I can smell the antifreeze. Why would it be getting hot now that I changed the cad. converter?

Re: Check Engine Problem

Coolant loss is not related to replacing the cat, but coolant in the exhaust could ruin it. Get that checked out soon. Next time try and post what is causing the emissions failure or failure code, your info on the problem is insufficient.

I dont think there is any coolant in the exhaust, I am taking it to have it flushed today and I think I am going to have to put a new water pump on it. Not too long after I kill my car there is a rather large puddle under it, but not in the front, closer to the oil pan area, but i know it is not oil.

as far as the codes, last time I had it checked it came up as 407 (I think, is that the one for the egr). I will go have it checked again and see if it is any different, but i know it is not running smoothly either, so I kinda expect to see a multi missfire code.

Re: Check Engine Problem

Sounds like you might have a blow or almost blow head gasket! Do you get any fluxuation on the temp while driving? Like it jumps up then drops real quick? And also pull your oil filler cap and give it a looksy see if there is any milkshake colored substance on it! And you could always pull the buld for the CES but you will probley still fail anyways! But it is a thought!

Re: Check Engine Problem

as far as EGR goes, depending on year and engine size, there was a PCM reflash for P1404, EGR closed position performance, could that be the code you got?
