14b safety question
Well since I took off the silencer, I noticed boost was around 20-21psi
Is this too high for my engine and 14b? Can anything bad happen from it because its pulling like a raped ape right now.

Re: 14b safety question
i dont see bigger injectors on your mod list? you might wanna make sure your getting enough fuel to support that kind of power.

Re: 14b safety question
Well, Im just curious about this
Before, when the silencer was on, i was boosting about 17 psi, once I took it off it jumped to 20-21 psi without me touching the boost controller...is the turbo working harder now then it was before, or is it the same just with 100% output now? I havnt gotten fuel cut or anything of the sort, just tires spinning through 2nd gear lol. Once again though, is this gonna hurt my engine or cause my turbo to break in any way shape or form?

Re: 14b safety question
20 lbs is kinda high fo that 14b, if youve replaced ur bearings u should have a prob with the engine but if ur running a 7 bolt on the original factory bearings u will probly get crank walk before u get to the swap. also running 20lbs on that turbo will shorten the life span of it quickly

My car did the same thing after I installed my exhaust. I think it's because the exhaust has less restriction now so the boost is higher at a boost controller setting of a more constricted exhaust. The easy solution is to just turn the boost down the the BC, and yes that is to much psi for you to run on your turbo. You won't mess up your engine but you will mess up the turbo if you run with it like that for to long.

Re: 14b safety question
Ok good, ill probably turn it up when and if I go to a track on friday. So it wont hurt my engine at all? Even on stock internals?

Nope. You can run a 16g on stock internals at 23psi or so. With supporting mods of course.

Re: 14b safety question
You can run stock internals to 5000 psi if airflow is still below ~50 lbs/min (and the head gasket holds)
Don't quote boost pressures, it's not the right way to look at it. 20-21 psi is fine for the turbo, and fine for the internals. The problem is going to be fuel supply as mentioned early on. When I Was creeping to 22 psi on the 14b, I had knock issues on the stock injectors. Similar setup to yours. What you are seeing is in fact boost creep. MY 14b crept to 22 psi with the test pipe. You are getting the same effect by freeing up your exhaust in the same way, just with the silencer removal instead of cat removal. Perfectly normal. There is a page on my site with some notes on what I did to fix the problem. On race gas you will be fine, but on pump I would be very careful.

Re: 14b safety question
Damn i can't even get my 14b up to 15 yet. Im still working on the problem. If it pulls this hard at 12 psi i can't wait to see what i can do at 17. I had a thought the other day. Can i run the boost controller in to the ebc? That way it will do at least 14 and then i can adjust it from there? At least until i get a better boost controller.

Re: 14b safety question
What if I just turn the boost down to ~17psi, Im guessing Ill still have boost creep, but not as bad on pump gas?

Re: 14b safety question
Before this thread gets lost in pages after this, back to my last question:
Is it ok if I just turn boost down to lower creep? Or do I need to port my WG and o2 housing?

Re: 14b safety question
There is no way to "turn down" boost creep with a boost controller. The definition of boost creep is a lack of control of boost pressure due to a WG that does not flow enough relative to the main exhaust path. Porting (properly) is the only solution.
