Is it true that the only way to remove the fuel pump from a 96 Aurora is by use of the special tool J-39765? Or is there another way?
Thanks. MT |

I used a screw driver and picked the rusted pieces of the retaining ring out of the grooves. I suspect if your ring is not rusted you can tap it out with a screw driver.

As an update, I was able to remove the old ring fairly easily. It pretty much broke apart as I used a punch to try to tap it out. I kept a shop vac close by to frequently vacuum out the debris so that nothing would fall into the gas tank when the ring was taken all the way off ( the pump pushes upward via 4 springs). The new ring went on pretty easily as well just by using a punch.
