Your opinion

How much would you pay for a 1997 GSX with 120.000 miles on it. Its in good condition, no rust or anything like that. Some mods, nothing to serious.
Thanks

color, tranny, options, etc would be helpful for a more accurate estimate

I would say depending on everything, could be as high as 5k.

Re: Your opinion

Ok, I talked with the guy today. He wanted like $9000 but I told him that the highest I would give him is around $6000 and he agreed. From what I have seen, its a 5 speed GSX in perfect condition. It just had a new clutch. It has a safc2 and a bigger turbo. It has a rebuild engine and many new parts. He said he has invested a lot but knows that he cannon get nearly close to the money he spended. Also he showed me a certificate that the car was inspected and tested for crankwalk. He said thats the first thing he checked. I like the car a lot. I mean I got my RS for 4K. This is a little more but its a GSX. Cars proces are highter over here. I am going to test drive it tomorrow. My old DSM is going to get estimated tomorrow I hope I get some $$$. I am going to do a full inspection on the car tomorrow and give you guys all the info.

Does the "certificate" state the actual crank endplay? I don't know if I would trust something that someone printed up on their HP printer saying "we certify that this car does not have crankwalk"

Anyway, was the timing belt/balancer belt/etc done? You are at that point (120k) where that should be done. Unless you do it yourself, expect to pay around $700 - $800 for the parts and labor to do it right.

Also, might want to find out exactly what turbo he is running, fuel pump, injector size, boost setting and if he has a logger. We wouldn't want you to buy a car that some bonehead was running with a fucked up tune for the past 20k. Or a guy running 25psi on the stock fuel system. Just something to keep in mind.

Hope that helps.

Re: Your opinion

OK, I test drove the car. It pulls like crazyyyyyy.
It has a new ACT clutch. Also new performance radiotor. It has a Big 16G with a Apexi 3" exhaust. Racing seats and a GReady boost controller. Wires and other stuff but I will list things later on. I love the car. Its in good shape. The original proce was for $9000 but he is willing to go down around $7000. it hasnt been driven for a couple of weeks since he is out of state for school but I like the car a lot. I think it backfired once but not sure. Anyways I would change everything when if get it. ( hopefullllly ) Also car was set at 4psi of boost since he didnt want people to take the life out of it when they drove it. At 4 psi it is pulling very nice. Today I am going again with a mechanic for a test drive. Damn, I WANT THAT CAR !!! By the way, he said he was also scared of crankwalk and had it checked and mechanics said that the car was ok. I dont see any symptoms of crankwalk. What worries me a little is that sometimes RPM's play a little for 3 seconds. Maybe I just need to adjust idle. I will get pics and info on the car soon.

Car looks real nice, and that IS the best color of all the dsm's heh . Is the front bumper scraped up on the bottom?

Only thing that is weird, is that you said he only had it at 4 psi? That seems a bit low considering stock is ~10ish. But I don't really know since he put those other mods in.

Good luck man!

Re: Your opinion

Yeah bumper is scratched a little, but a friend of mine does this work and he will fix all the little things on the car for really cheap. Yeah he has all these things monitors inside and I am not really good with boost and boost controllers.
I have to get a car real soon since I drive my moms 2003 Accord but she is getting pissed cause it smells like cigarretes all the time . I have to choose between this GSX and KIA thats being sold near by too. The KIA is nice, but damn its slow as fuck I rather run on foot. Good gas milege though.

Re: Your opinion

well the kelly blue book on the car is $5,630 private party and $7,600 retail from a dealership But with those kind of mods, and if its in good shape... GSX's are hard to find. no dealership would sell it for under $7500, trust me you would not talk them down. so as long as you get it looked at professionaly, i'd so go for it. i wouldn't be afraid of the miles because it seems like he knew what he was doing. and its rebuilt after all...

Re: Your opinion

Ok guys, I just realized something. He doesnt have a SAFC2 but Greddy PRofec e-01 boost controller. Hell if I know what it is. It has all these god damn numbers everywhere. I hate electronics . Also fuel injectors are stock. I will be talking to him tomorrow to list alllll the upgrades and I will write them down. But i checked on that thing Greddy PRofec e-01 and its like $500, So i am guessing its important maybe ????
