Speedo offset with new rims?

Im looking at getting new rims for my 1990 celica gtx/gts..basically the same car.
Ne way.. How much will it throw off my speedometer... And will i pick up a extra rpms...and if so how much..
Exp.. Like usually i turn 3000 at 65-70... with bigger rims would i be able to do 65-70 at like 2500?...
I want to pick up more top speed but not sacrafice to much torque..

Re: Speedo offset with new rims?

If I understand your sentance, Errrr no. all bigger wheels will do is make your speedo inacurate, reduce acceleration and increase rotating mass. why would you want to increase top speed??? how often do you reach top speed anyway?? try to keep the rolling radius as close to the original as possible. Also some more info like what size rims you want, what size you have now etc....would help, were you drunk when you typed this????

Re: Speedo offset with new rims?

Haha... Ill re write this....
Ok i have stock rims right now... I think 15's... I want to switch to 17's or 18's... Which is a better choice. Also i heard if you have bigger rims... they have to rotate less so you turn less rpms... is that true? Because top speed sucks i can only reach about 100-110 and im Redlining... I race alot on the highway and i like to wind it out
And lastley.. will bigger rims reduce torque since it has more to turn?

Re: Speedo offset with new rims?

with bigger rims you will also have to get a new break setup, because your turning more weight, and, most likely a new set of shocks

Re: Speedo offset with new rims?

^ not true, its not NECESSARY, but ist a good idea to upgrade your stock breaks and suspenion w/ or w/out rims and tires....if i could go back, my first mods would have been intake, rims/tires, dropping it and upgraded breaks

makes your car a lot faster on runs

If you want to work out how far out your speedo will be with your new rims and what size tyre you will need to minimise the effect that changing your rims will have, then there is only one site you need to know...

Re: Speedo offset with new rims?

I wouldnt get much bigger rims unless you run alot of power, they are like mentioned, gonna slow you down, 17's should be OK, 16's will be better (not looks wise) 15's just look way too small and should be thrown away as soon as possible before they infect the rest of the car with there useles smallness. I notice a very slight difference between the 16's that come standard and the 18's I run now, but my car has enough power to overcome this. Tramlines a bit which is annoying.

As for your top speed, I dont think your gonna get much better than that.
