Paint Sealant???

I've been reading about paint sealant, but was wondering what exactly is it? Is it a type of wax, or something all together different??? Does it protect from rain, snow, sun light, etc? And where can you purchase paint sealant from?

Re: Paint Sealant???

Paint sealer is much better than wax as far as protecting paint & lasting longer. I use Hi-temp Long Term sealant found here - http://www.topoftheline.com/tolae/16ozmaxpains.html

Paint sealant are usually made up of polymers (large chemically produced molecules) and acrylic resins. They are very easy to wipe on and buff off. They are also very durable. Some polymers can last 6 to 9 months even longer.

The down side to a polymer is that because it doesn't break down it can build up. And over time and with multiple applications this can change the look of your paint. They've also been known to reek havoc on certain types of German paints. And though they will make your ride shine, it's not a real deep shine. For shine you just can't beat a real good Carnauba wax (IMO).

So with all that said, the choice is up to you. If your gig is easy application and durability a sealant could be the thing for you.
