99 Windstar Guages freaking out. Electrical?

My wife has a 99 Windstar and sometimes the electrical guages, speedo, fuel, temp, etc.. all seem to freak out... The needles bounce back and forth then quit.... then magically they are working again.

Help!

My guess would be a voltage problem either due to a bad battery, connections to battery, electrical connections to the gauges, instrument panel regulator (if equipped) or looseness of any of the above. I know that relays can cause strange things too.

Ditto to DRW:

If it is relay related, my bet would be the PCM power relay.

pcm power relay has nothing to do with the instument cluster...... you have a problem with a power or ground.. check ground g304 at the lh cowl panel. or the voltage reg on alt is going out.
