Re: th400

there should be no problems whatsoever, just it will look different and the modulator will be on the side instead of on the back (sry if i switched em lol). anyways, im not for certain, but i think they might have made the turbo trannies in shorter models for cars maybe so make sure you wont have to get a different length driveshaft or something...

personally, if i was you, i would keep the th350 unless of course it went out on ya. the th400 is a beefier tranny, but it isn't necessary. i have the turbo 400 in my pickup with a stock 350c.i. and my buddy has the turbo 350 in his 86 with a 454c.i. that has everything from a racing cam to a set of good headers. he does burnouts all the time and has enough power to chirp the tires when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, but that turbo 350 never clunks or looses grip ever. its a pretty solid unit.

if you do end up replacing it, im sure it will be pretty easy to do, and it will be just a tad bit more heavy duty also, which i suppose cant hurt a thing

thanks for the adivce i believe the only problemi is going to be the yoke and the lenght of the drive shaft. my 350 is not stock it has bolt ons like headers welden intake 750 double pumper 7 qt oil pan with matching oil pump for volume heads where done ported roller rockers and a small cam made my 350 tranny start to slip the gears the th 400 has a shift kit in it done by a friend so i hope this tranny with the proper ajustrments will do the job thanks for the adivce

no problem. good luck with the conversion. you should not be dissapointed with the results. by the way, are you putting a torque converter with a higher stall rpm in also or is the engine still pretty street capable so you can use the stock one? and what exactly does the shift kit do? are you talking a column to floor shift conversion or something else? if its something that beefs up the internals of the tranny, then i might look into that because im gonna beef up my engine for my truck and i want all the durability i can get.

A TH400 has a electronic kickdown (passing gear) as opposed to a manual cable on the TH350. You can get a kit from Summit or Jegs with the necessary throttle brackets.

Also I beleive the crossmember is different also. At least they are on 70-81 F-Bodies.

i am not to familar with trannys and supin them but my friend sold me the th400 all ready with the shift kit in it.. i am guessing that it has something to do the valve boody or something like that he sold it to me with a torque converter already he said that it was a high stall converter dont knowl how high ....i am guessing not to high my be just a 2500 or 3500 stall converter i really hope it anit a stock one....lol

i believe that the cross member should be the same
i had a 82 camero and when i did the conversion on that one from a 5 speed tranny to a th400 the only thing that i had to do was buy a crossmember for jeggs for $125.00 and used the old torqur arm bushing with it and a custom drive shaft too it worked really well with that 350
