2000 Gc Ecm
Could someone please tell me where the ECM is located on a 2000 GC Laredo.......its a V8, 4.7L.
also, i wouldnt think it would be too difficult to replace myself; i would very much appreciate it if someone might give me a few pointers or a briefing of what i would have to do? i have changed every part that has been mentioned in this forum, and i swear this is the car from hell....i never had as many problems with a vehicle as i have had with this jeep. hopefully someone on here can give me some instruction......thanks so much in advance.

yea, it doesnt run at all....it cranks like the starter is jammed or something, so i tried to jump it, and i was able to get it to turn over and run for about 5 seconds or so with the idle randomly going up and down - however, if i would try to put it in drive, it would immediately die...the check engine light stayed on and it did all kinds of crazy things before it finally died...i had just about every problem that i have seen in this forum, and changed just about every part mentioned. most recent was the crankshaft position sensor and fuel pump. it took me over an hour to find that sensor. the weirdest thing it did right before it died was, everything would be fine, and all of a sudden it would crawl along at less than 5 mph even if i would have the gas pedal to the floor for a few minutes. then all of a sudden it would pick up some speed again. this happened completely randomly so a few times i got stuck holding up traffic.....the idle was very high and would constantly change while running in park. my father is an amazing mechanic, but he is out of the country for a little while and i dont have anyway to contact him. he was always working on the GC and the last thing he said was that if it doesnt work THIS time, then its definitely the ECM. he has an OBDII so if there is something that has to be done using that after the ECM is changed, he could do it. the only common problem i have seen on here that i didnt change is the distributor cap. but i dont understand how that would make my car act the way it did. the ecm is the only thing that seems logical at this point.
anyway, i just bought a 2005 trailblazer with the GM employee discount, but i want to fix the jeep before i sell it. i also might hang onto it if i can get it working right.

don't know if this would help but I would try changing the battery, had that happen to me. It would only idle at very high rpm and was hard to start even with a jump. Once I disconnected the old battery from the jumper cables everything went back to normal. A long shot, but I would try it for sure, also, have you changed the throttle position sensor?, although I don't understand why that would make it hard to start, thats why I'm thinking of a faulty battery with some screwed up cells.

i appreciate the advice, i HAVE changed the battery about a year ago, so i really dont think its that. i didnt change that sensor, but when i hook the OBDII up to it, that code does not flash. actually, now that i think of it, no codes were flashing, and its more messed up than ever...thats the main reason i think its the computer...

ok, i put the battery in for my mustang, and you were right...it started up. it ran funny for a bit, but i assume it was resetting itself...plus it hasnt run for a few months. so i took it for a ride, and it was a little funny. the next big problem is when i tried to go "UP" a hill it almost died and barely made it to the top...once i got to the top it was "fine"....once i fix this problem i will be able to be more specific with what is making it run "funny". what would make the car die on hills like that??? we were going slower up the hill than someone walking, and i am VERY surprised it did not stall out.

it starts off fine on level ground after a slight hesitation. the rpms were VERY LOW going up the hill, it seemed like it was about to die but it would jerk a little bit every few seconds and it was just enough to get it to the top....we moved approximately 30 feet in over 30 seconds. that is what it was doing before it finally died....more and more often. i remember it doing that on level ground once or twice also, so i dont think its just doing it on the hills, but it ALWAYS does it on hills, and sometimes on level ground also. i just noticed that the ends of the battery cable on the positive wire seems slightly melted or something...im sure that has nothing to do with the current problem, but it might be part of the reason the battery is bad. i am going to pick up a new battery right now. thank you sooo much for responding so quickly. oh, and i dont think its the gas bc it has been doing it for over a month before i finally parked it.

they should throw a code but they often don't , causing it to be a mystery problem for the dealer to work on at an hourly rate until they find the problem. If the check engine light is not on , the shops are lost and just throw darts at it until its finally fixed or you just don't have any more money to give them. If you have a multi meter and know how to use it, I can give you the test for the tps.
