cruise problems

i have a 98 gt and the cruise control breaks out while going down the road. could stay on 5 minutes to 25 minutes but without fail, it quits. i turn it off(cc) and re-set it and repeat the cycle. the traction light does as it pleases with the mind of its own and it is showing the ses light constantly. i replaced the crankshaft position sensor this weekend(kudos to whomever posted that link i found here on AF) and while it runs better without stalling going down the road, its not quite up to par yet. any ideas/suggestions? thanks in advance, ted.

Re: cruise problems

Hi Ted,

I have found with my 89 LE that the cruise will do the same thing! I fiddled with the switch (mine is the turn signal switch also), it would work! Sometimes it works great other times it won't turn on at all. Soooo, my guess would be the "combination switch" as they call it.

Re: cruise problems

thanks Mark, i'll check into that. today after a 350 mile drive home yesterday with no problems other than the cruise, it died on me a couple hundred yards from home. the ses light, change oil soon and trac light flickered in sync for 4 or 5 seconds and then i was coasting. started up immediately, though.

Re: cruise problems

check your electrical connections, especially those at the jump/start terminal and battery. Also check the grounds, as electrical gremlins usually end up being related to bad connections. Don't forget to check under the underhood relay center, as the connections can get corroded and cause anomalies too.
