Thumbs down 92 Caravan Start Question

My 92 Dodge Caravan (v6). Is having some problems starting up. It cranks over just fine and fires up for only a second and then quits. This happens constantly and will fire everytime, but will also die everytime. I just put in a new fuel pump/filters....Fuel pump, fuel pressure (80 lbs), fuel regulator were all ok....

I ran a diagnostic and it came up with a code 55, but the manual said it "was not available." Can any of you guys help me out? Thanks

Re: 92 Caravan Start Question

55 means end of codes

does it die once you release the key? or a while after?

It fires, so I release the key. It runs for literally 1-3 seconds and just quits. But like I said it will fire EVERYTIME, just quits right away. The ONLY code I got was a 55, and like i said I checked all the other fuel system stuff. I just dont know...

Re: 92 Caravan Start Question

How was it running prior to this problem starting? Could be possible very dirty injectors. Not sure if a crank sensor would do this, I would think it wouldn't start at all if that was it. You could try pouring some gas directly into the intake and see if it runs any longer that way, if so possible FI's.

Well my next step would be checking spark, pull a plug wire off and stick another (extra ) plug in it (or just pull plug and all) and ground it to the plenum while you have someone crank the engine, see if you get spark the whole time it is being cranked over, if not then it is an eletrical issue.

Re: 92 Caravan Start Question

Hi
I had a similar problem and it was the battery not providing enough voltage, I litterally had to floor the throttle to keep the engine running . Otherwise your alternator has failed
