Head Light Problem
Hello guys, I have a 2002 Pontiac Firebird and something weird started happening yesterday. Everytime I unlock the door or lock it and close the door the headlights open for about 2 seconds then close and once they are closed the left headlight starts making a noise like its having a hard time closing for like 5 seconds. Like the motor is still trying to close it. Any ideas on what this could be and how I could fix this?
Thanks, Frank |

Re: Head Light Problem
sounds like a wiring problem.

Re: Head Light Problem
More like the gear in your headlight motor is stripped.
http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/ Not too sure about what's up with the locks and closing the door making the lights come up. I'd take it in to get looked at if it still keeps doing it after you fix the headlight motor.

ok for one thing thats crazy about the door locks and headlight motors running at the same time haha mabye a ghost??? no probably not but anyway sounds like a bad relay ? i'm not sure but i dont think that the doorlocks and the headlight motors are even on the same fuse ... i'd have the wiring checked and if no simple solution is found then you could always run a switch to the headlight motor and the battery and eliminate the one that activates when the lights are turned on

Headlight Motor Gear
It is actually your headlight motor gear that has gone bad some how its all wired together and since the gear is stripped the car doesn't think the headlights are all the way down when they are supposed to be and it confuses the computer. Just go to the link posted above and buy a brass replacement gear, its a fairly simple install a child could do it.

Re: Head Light Problem
Wow, i just had this problem not 2 weeks ago with my 98 formula. What had happened is that the left motor was bad and i had to replace it. I paid roughly 400 for a new motor and all so it was kind of steep but you can find another motor for the headlight off ebay. Not the most glamorous approach but its a quick fix none-the-less... also, i find the irony in this thread because after i solve my problem someone else posts about the same thing... oh well... such is life. :P
