Angry help please asap

Im selling my 93 taurus tomarow it doesnt have the origional motor it has a 3.8l and i dont know hte year of the motor i just put a new idle air control valve in which stopped the car from stalling out when i put it in drive now the car still has a weird idle when i turn the wheel either way the idle drops down to about 500 and when i put it in drive it drops down to just over 500 rpms now what could cause this problem.. Also the brights if you pull the thing towards the steering wheel the brights come on but dont stay on they dont click on is there a quick easy way to fix this and where is the thermostat located on this car..

Re: help please asap

Sounds like your battery may be dropping in voltage when you put it under a load. Since you mention the problem when turning the steering wheel, you might have a slipping belt. The power steering pump is run off the belt, when your turn the wheels, the power steering will apply a load to the engine, and if the belt isn't tight or is too badly glazed, it could slip which can cause the alternator to slip as well. The output of the alternator will be drastically reduced, and your battery (which would must be weak if this is the case) is dropping so much voltage, your Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shutting down due to too low of a supply voltage.

If you have a volt meter, put it on your battery and watch the voltage when you turn the steering wheel. If it drops down below 10 volts, I would suggest you replace your drive belt and battery.

Good luck!

Re: help please asap

Have you tried measuring the voltage on the battery when turning the steering wheel?

A bad power steering pump may load the engine enough to cause what you're seeing, but it is much cheaper to check the battery voltage during a turn to possibly rule that out.
