Angry 1960 Vette Runs Hot

I recently purchased at 1960, 283 /2-4's, restored 2200 miles ago. It ran hot when I bought it (it IS hot in Texas). I was told by a mechanic it needed an aluminum radiator. $1300 later I have one - with new thermostat. Still runs past 220 in stop & go traffic. Yesterday boiled over. I trust the mechanic, but can anyone tell me if this is normal? What did people do in the '60's?

Do you have a fan shroud on it? If not get one, it'll make a hugh difference. My Nova used to get up around 210 - 220 in traffic when it had no shroud on it. I found a shroud and put it on. Now it rarely gets higher than 180.
