mild shifting problem

Hi, got a minor shifting problem. Occassionally, my 91 cherokee 4L will not go into any gear after stopping at a light or stop sign. Once and awhile, it will shift into reverse but not the other gears.
However, it will go into gear if I turn off the engine and then shift it.
Clutch fluid is near full.
Is this a vaccum issue? Would the clutch master cyclinder be going?

Re: mild shifting problem

sounds like a cluch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder... i think the slave cylinder is much cheaper. try to troubleshoot using a repair guide.

Re: mild shifting problem

Thanks.
Found out that could be air in the clutch lines. Will bleed first and if improves but comesback then my master is gone. If does not improve at all, my master and slave need replacement.

Re: mild shifting problem

Bled the clutch hydraulic lines using little 1/4 inch nipple on second rod sticking out of clutch housing. Pedal improved but the shifting did not. I guess i'll try the master first. The slave apparently requires dropping the transmission to get to it.
