I dont think so but not 100% positive. why do want a stroker engine i mean it is nuya bussiness i will respect that.strokers are good engines
but most the times people build strokers they are on a mission.
i had a friend who had one at one time very quick off the line when he hooked up.but half way thru the race his, rivel was just getting his first gust of good air and my buddy always got beat in the end .but if you plan fwd with this engine u will be number one at the end .dont get me wrong if your sure a stroker is what u want then i would go with my 1st gut feeling .but if you would like to save money have fast car and not so easy to scatter parts all over your home town.send me a p email or just respond i will give you info on small block chevy that is outstanding
and passed down from a very very reliable source and it worked for me
i am no wiz or nothing like that but if you are going to stay on the street drop me a line if you need any help i will be glad to help you.
but if you are going off road i probbally would just mess you up .if i can help just let me
long live the legacy because once winner always a winner (Dale Earnhart Incorperated LONG LIVE THE MAN IN BLACK

We are in the Camaro section.

Your buddies car fell flat on it's face because it didn't have a good flowing set of heads on it.

Re: stroker question

yeah id say heads and/or cam wasnt giving that motor what it needed to breath right. 383's are great motors. I like the 406 small blocks because they are usually absolute beasts when it comes to power. A guy i know has a 69 camaro prostreet and hes got a 406 in it and the car runs mid 8's. sweet car.

Re: stroker question

So far I have a 270 comp cam, msd ignition, accel distributor and coil, looking for the right casting number for 305 heads(for the smaller combustion chambers) and thinking maybe a port and polish job?
any other ideas?

YES, The block needs to be clearanced for the 3.75" stroke. You also need a small base circle cam.

Well it is a 400 block with 400 crank.
.30 over is the bore. stock rods ,the bottom end had stud kit . Not that it made it any faster but you know just for insurance because it was a 2 bolt main.I had 441 heads 2.02 1.6 gm stainless steel valves, competion cam roller tip rocker arms 1.6 instead of the stock 1.52.comp valve springs also. The heads were port polished . Eldebrock rpm intake that was match ported to the heads.I ran a couple different carbs,750 dbl pumper, and the preditor, which both were great.but you may have a better carb than i and it will help i am sure.uldradine ground a cam for the specs i was running .520 lift and 290 = 300 duration. somewhere in that area. All i had in the car was a 3.73 gear from a monte carlo ss.
350 turbo trans, with california style shift kit . It was a fast shifting trans
with not any jerk or slamming of the gears. Also no time lost between gear change. The engine was strong ,I ran 7.70 in that area on street tires so keep in mind i also had b&m 3500 stall , so she broke loose on street tires anywhere from 15 to 25 mph. So if you have a better gear , carb ,lighter car ,and few more things you probally have alreadythat i did'nt will help . good luck guy i hope whatever you decide to build that it runs to a extreme perfection and you smoke some assss.

Port and polish will be money well spent . The change in performance
you will notice . I like the f-body style you have a good looking car .
I had a 85 IROC-Z that my friends dad bought new garage kept but lots of hwy miles . It ran good and gave no trouble at all. But most of all it had the sex it was a head turner or a crowd pleaser . Wish i still had that one

Re: stroker question

Yeah 400 small blocks kick ass. My dad has one in his 68 Z with a 4 speed tranny. The only problem is finding a sb 400, way too rare or the ppl that do have them want too much for them. The most common price i find is 500-600 for just the block nothing else.

Strange. In LSx world, that makes a 408.

That is assuming you mean a 4.00" bore block and a 4.00" crank.

I will be running that set-up, minus the .030 bore. 402 cubes for me.
