If a class D amp is 800 watt rms, and you hook it up to 2 subs, is it going to give both the subs 800 watts or only half because there is 2 subs?...

Come on I know someone knows for sure. I've been told both, but if it does divide the power by 2 with 2 subs, then how in the hell did I blow 2 audiobahn AW125Ts (400 watt rms) with a jl 500/1 amp (500 watt rms) If its only giving the sub 250 watts...with boost at 0.

As far as I know, the wattage would be split between the two subs. So you are saying that you blew two subs with that amp?? I would guess that you didn't hook it up right, because it's not exactly easy to blow the subs, especially if the wattage you are posting is correct. How you wired it all up really makes a difference too. If you bridged the amp you could be pumping out more wattage than you think. If you have a 500watt amp at 4 ohms, and you bridge it down to 2, them that essentially makes it 1000 watts. Correct? If you bridge it down to 1 ohm, it would be 2000 watts? I think that's right, if i'm wrong, please correct this. I know that a lot of amps are 1 ohm stable, so if this is the case than you may have been pumping a lot more watts through those speakers than you originally thought. In my experience, my amps have blown way before the subs were even close. I would check all of your wiring and make sure everything is hooked up the way it is supposed to be. Hope this helps. aiight. the amp is 500 watts @ 1.5 - 4 ohms. I have the subs wired series/parallel dual 4 creating 4 ohm load on the amp, but what I dont get is that dual 2 ohm, 2 ohm load wiring is same as dual 4, 4 ohm load... My subs are dual 4 ohm vcs, 2 or 8 ohm operation. So am I running dual 2 or dual 4? Either way it should be 500 watts with this amp though right? since it is 500 watts @ 1.5 - 4 ohms.

I've blown 3 subs, one I had the gain at +13, blew that one really fast..lol. Another one it rattled really bad so I replaced it. Now one of them is rattling, and if I turn it up loud enough it will knock.

Yesteday I played with the settings on the amp and I got the subs hitting hard as hell (boost is still at 0), no knocking at all. The one that is messed up just rattles a little bit. Can you blow a sub by setting your amp up wrong?

OK lets set this strait.
1. It makes 500 watts @1.5 ohms. If it was incrased to 3 or 4 ohms then the amp would produce less power because more resistance.
2. If the amp is a two channel amp AND you hook up the subs in parallel then you will get a 2 ohm load per channel. If its wired in series you will get an 8 ohm load per channel
3. If the amp is a single channel(mono amp) AND and you hook up the subs in parallel then you will be getting a 1 ohm load. If the subs are dual 4 ohm coils and you run it in paralled then you will be putting a lot of power to them and possible driving your amp too hard.
4. Message me and let me know if the amp is 2 or one channel and what manuf. and model it is, and ill let you know wheather to wire them in parallel or series and what the difference is.

It's a class D amp. JL audio 500/1. (here it is at jl website, http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=252 ). When I bought the AMP the guy told me it will put out 500 watts @ 1.5 TO 4 ohms, he told me the ohms wont make a difference with this amp, that it will put out 500 watts no matter what..

I have never heard of any amp putting out the same amt. of power no matter what the ohms are. I dont know what to tell ya. Call JL audio. Got me stumped
