Clear Lights- Projector Question....

Hey guys, back from a extra long vacation...feels good....anyways, I am interested in buying some parking lights ( either in clear or chrome), and don't know which one to buy.....there is some on ebay for like $20.00 bucks, but this looks like some cheap knockoffs......does anyone have them and where did they get them? Also, I know it might be a stupid question, but what do projector lights do? I see pictures of them and they all have some circle in them.....? Also, just to keep on the right track, I am looking for addition brightness.....to see the road better, and for the looks.....the yellow on the stocks are killing me......thanks in advance for the replies....

Re: Clear Lights- Projector Question....

When they say projector they are talking about the pattern of light that is spread out in front of the vehicle. A true projector lens has a cut off so what is projected is a half moon with the line as the top. Most people who use HID, high intensity discharge, lights use a projector to keep the bright, almost extreme bright, light below the eye level of the oncoming car. When using an HID make sure if what you are after is better light you get the 5K lights. The 6K is a measurement of the tempature of the light not anything else. When you get farther up towards 10 and 12K you get blue and purple which actually cuts down on the distance the light will extend. Those rings you are seeing are called a Halo. Cars like BMW and others have the Halo stock. That requires another wire tap to light the Halo with a parking light power.

Be careful, black projectors are JUNK, I had some and they were worse than stock even though I had HID lights. If the internal reflectors are not there the projectors will have bad performance.

Good luck!!!

Re: Clear Lights- Projector Question....

Also, I have some nice Altezza tail lights that I got off of eBay 2 1/2 years ago and they still look cherry:
http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...cat=500&page=1
I paid a bit more than $20 for them, but I got them about 1/3 of what they would cost anywhere else. What can I say, they work great!!
As for the headlights, I did get some aftermarket ones, but stayed with the regular setup. I thought about getting projectors, but to tell you the truth, I like the lens I have now better than any projectors I've seen on eBay, If you want brighter, try the Sylvania Blue or Silverstar bulbs. They're better in quality than the eBay after markets and neither will give you the "yelleow". effect. Hope this helps

I bought a set of clear corners of ebay about 6 months ago, they fit perfect and no problems as of yet (picture). As for the headlights I had also thought about going projector lens but one of my friends had put a pair on and they required him to use foglamp bulbs, they burned out almost every two weeks. I went with the Sylvania Silverstars, a little pricey but worth the money.

Re: Clear Lights- Projector Question....

I have TYC corner lights (see picture). I love them, as far as the projector lenses, I have heard more bad than good, as far as functionality goes.

Re: Clear Lights- Projector Question....

I have the silverstars, on right now.......the biggest reason, why I wanted to change the lights was because the left light keeps sucking in tonnes of water and is now kind of yellow.....and the right one....the high beam light fell loose and burn't right through the parking light housing around the bulb......I like the tyc, and rolling bones lights.....how much did you pay for them? And from where did you buy yours jers?

Re: Clear Lights- Projector Question....

Yea, as far as projectors go, unless you have a newer GMC and can get ahold of some Denali lamps, stay away from the cheap guys off e-bay. I still have them...but only because im a sucker for the look, and live in the city where everything has street lights. And yes, I had to tap the halo rings and the corner markers into the parking lights. Im not so sure about the TYC projectors that are out now, I have never seen them lit up, but they could still be the same trash. Just get some regular clear chrome ones and put in some bright ass bulbs.

I bought my clear corner lights of ebay for 26$, they have worked and looked good so far. I have not changed out my Headlight assy. just because i havent needed to. Like i had posted earlier one of my friends had the projector lights and said they were crap. that was my big reason for not getting them. Just get either stock replacements or just a clear lens, all of which are available on ebay.

Re: Clear Lights- Projector Question....

Think of a wide mouth bowl with a small AA light in the center, your factory set up. The beam is sent in a round pattern and focused lower to stay out of peoples eyes. bright but leaves you wishing for more and yellow from standard bulbs has its limits.

Then think of a Mag light with the lens turned to a half tight beam with 4 D batteries and your hand covering the upper half so the beam is cut to the lower half. With the higher intensity and a perfect cut off line you can see farther. Projectors require but do not always get HID, high intensity discharge, lights. The tunnel, projector, does not reflect all of the light forward so you have to account for some loss. If you stay in the 5K temp range you will get the farthest reach and the color is easiest on the eyes. The 11K lights are hard on the eyes and can't reach as far as the 5K white light.

HID SHOULD NOT be put in a stock set up as the brighter/intense light will blind on coming traffic without the cut off plate in place.

What ever you do, never get black projectors as Nigel and I found out. As long as the "Clear" projector is of quality not cheap material you MIGHT get better results.

Good Luck....

What kind of cars do your teemates and folks drive? most FACTORY projectors work great and come on cars like BMW's, Nissan, Audi, VW...stuff like that and usually put out a light with a white/ blue tint. A projector healight will have regular assembly, but the sopt where the light comes out of looks like a little glass "bubble"... Just like a real projector you would use to show a movie on a big screen or something like that. Where as a regular headlight is just an assembely where a light bulb reflects off the sides of it. Just do this...... look at your headlights, and then look at the headlights on a new BMW. Or I could just attache a pic of mine...

Dont buy these. Im sure you can get your hands on some REAL projectors for your truck but it will cost some serious cash. Hope this helped u out and aorry the pic is soo big.

Oh yea, the cheap clear corners for your turn signals are fine, mine were $15 on e-bay and hae lasted me over a year. and if they start to leek or turn colors......their only $15!!
