Clutch Quick Connect

Hello,
I've searched the clutch threads and have not seen my problem. I am dropping the manual trans (NV3500 I think) in a 1997 S10. For the life of me I can not get the clutch hydraulic line to release from the release cylinder. This has a quick connect and the book makes it sounds easy but the darn thing is recessed from the access hole making it tough to get my fingers inside. I believe I am to depress the white sleeve to release the hydraulic line, not sure how far to depress it though. I just bought a kit for quick connect fittings (for fuel lines but I was told it should work) and there does not seem to be enough clearance between the sleeve and the lip of the hydraulic line to permit the tool to depress the sleeve.
Am I going about this all wrong or is there an easier way?

Well not sure if this happens much but I'm answering my own question. After dinking with it for about 4 hours I was able to push the sleeve in far enough with a pair very small flat blade screwdrivers (not jewelers type) and pull on the cable at the same time. Having three hands would have been helpful. Not the easiest procedure, but the darn thing is off.
I'm writing this hoping the next person will find it helpful.
