Knock from 3.1 L v6... Plz Help

I am at a lose...

this is in noise I recorded from a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird 3.1 v6 270K... its the knock/rattle in the video (turn your speakers up) and
I need help finding it... it sounds like its coming from the exhaust but then it sounds like a colapsed lifter/broken valve spring.
its coming from the passengers side of the engine.
thanks.. any help is appreciated.

to download:
http://rapidshare.de/files/5206980/knockrattle.mpg.html
hit the free tab near the bottom of the page
and it will say "Download-Ticket reserved. Please wait XX seconds."
then just wait and then it will say: "DOwnload: Knockrattle"
and click
use winamp to listen to it or any other media player.
THANKS

Re: Knock from 3.1 L v6... Plz Help

id get that to the shop quick or open take the valve cover off yourself cuz if you keep driving that thing around yourself your gonna end up with a nice decent sized hole in your cover...and if your really lucky..your hood...open your valve cover and inspect for anything loose..its prolly a rocker arm or a rod..but the point being..dont drive it..i knew a guy that had a Z24 with that same noise and his rod shot thru his hood leaving a hole on the top of his engine the size of a tennisball

by the way...right on with getting a audio clip to let ppl hear about your problem...really makes it easier when someone makes a thread and goes "i have a sound..its a rattle that sounds like it comes from the front of the car....any ideas?"

oh yeah for sure... it's sitting in my g-rage now I drive it in and out every so often but thats all.
it's not insured/safetied or legal so its not being driven. my plans were to fix it and sell it.

I took the front cover off to see if any of the valve springs or push rods were loose/broken but that seemed fine...

but I wanna get a better idea of what it is because when i take it apart then I cant hear it run.. and if its just a bolt or something stupid and i have to redo the engine and doesnt get rid of the sound then its going to be rough.

edit::: oh yeah, it was my brothers car and it was leaking very bad PS fluid so he took it in and said that it would cost 400 to replace the PS line. so the mechanic said its not worth it because your motor is no good.
btw I replaced the line myself for 60 bucks so I dunno if I can trust this mechanic

edit::: shit yeah forogt to say it is LOUDest at 2100 RPM... at about 5000 RPM it is pretty much not there.

wow, i'd like to see that hole.. he'd have to shoot the piston completey through the head of the motor.. And i'm not seeing that happen.. nor have I heard of it happening

with that mileage I wouldn't doubt its rod knock, but like you said at 5500rpms its non exsitent.

Re: Knock from 3.1 L v6... Plz Help

the rod pretty exploded thru the valve cover..it can happen..its like a retaining pin coming loose in a transmission and taking out half the transmission pan...it can happen..its not just the piece alone...you have to think of the pressure these parts are being backed up with when blowing out of a motor

Re: Knock from 3.1 L v6... Plz Help

the valvecover is attached to the head, the head is attached to the block (which has the pistons-rods-crank in it. the rod and pitons would have to "explode" through the head- THEN the valve cover-. 99% of the time you throw a rod through the oil pan or through the side of the block.
