for higher rpm, go with larger primary tubes. The lenght I don't think is as much of an issue. Iknow that the length of the primaries before the collector moves the torque peak up and down the rpm range, longer being lower and shorter being higher, but I don't know how much that will affect mid and high end horsepower.

larger pipes do cause less restriction on larger displacement engines, but dont forget that you also must take in account for exhaust speed. in a larger pipe, the speed would be slower. slower air moves through turns in your pipes differently than fast air. the cross pipe configuration (also known as x-pipe configuration) takes advantage of exhaust speed by one pipes exhaust "pulling" the other pipes exhaust in the same way that a carburator pulls gas into an engine. try to keep pipes as straight as possible and if you have to make curves in your pipes, try to keep both pipes symetrical even if it means putting an extra un-needed bend in a pipe. this will work out better in the long run by keeping your back pressure equal. unequal back pressure can throw your engine out of balance and hurt high end performance.

hope some of this helps you out!
