Few mechanical ??"S

Well i bought this jetta a week or 2 ago and have a few questions...

1..My speedo has started to not work after letting the car sit for a while and it wont come on till i drive it for about 4 miles or so or i can hit the dash and the speedo will hop up and go back down...Also when i slow down or turn the gas guage will go up or down while the speedo isnt working...I seen a thread on here about it something about a module in the cluster...What should i have done about this new cluster or what..

2..When i bought this car the guy claimed there was a coolent leak from radiator well when i bought the car i noticed a tiny drip from what looks the thermastat housing lower right side of it i tought it was the hose but i pushed the hose up a little bit more and it stopped coming from the hose..But now i notice it coming from around the right bottom side of what looks to be the thermastat housing on the right side...

Could this just be a crack in the thermastat housing or could it be a thermastat gasket..It does not get hot nor does it smoke or leak anything from the exhaust and the coolent isnt coming outta any gaskets or anything near the head or anything...

The hot/cold guage stays right at the 1/2 mark at all times is that to hot or is that normal for jettas..There was one time it got a little above the half mark not much above it just very little...There is no leaks outta the water pump area or anything...

Can anyone give me any info on this..I bought this car very cheap with all maintence records(about a 2 inch folder full) and very clean...I dont mind putting money into it cause how little i have in it but i just would like to know what step i should do first that would be the cheapest...

Any help would be appreciated...

Thx later

Forgot to mention i can let it sit running for about 15 mins and it will stay a tthe 1/2 mark on the temp guage so i dont think its a big problem but would like some suggestions of anything to do as a first step....

Re: Few mechanical ??"S

Well NM on the leak i found out its possibally the housing or something near the head that the coolant hoses hook to thats where the leak is coming from...Did a search on here someone else had same problem..

I am also having another problem the brake light stays on and sometimes i can hit gas hard and let off and the brake light blinks...Any clues on that...

Thx later

Re: Few mechanical ??"S

The instrument cluster is prone to failure on the A3's, replacement is the easiest option.
