First Kill of the Season.....

i just brought the chevelle back onto the road after finishing up some work on it this past thursday night. so, friday night i went out with some friends for some food and to hang out. anyways, around 11:00 on my way back to my friends house, a black turbo eclipse starts tailgating me and running his brights. so, at the next red light, i got a good look and saw this huge wing coming off the rear deck, rims, and heard an exhaust. i put my left hand blinker on, and when the light turned green, i nailed the gas, broke the tires loose, and swung the rear out as i turned left onto the main strip that goes through town.... the eclipse revved up and followed close behind me. i then slowed down to about 10 mph or so and let him pull up to me. waited..... and then let her rip. it wasn't even close. the chevelle walked away like he was standing still. the straight stretch we were on was about 1.25 miles long, and i had him beat by more than i can really estimate. it was embarrasing. he was waaaaaay back in my rearview. i almost felt bad for the guy. then he started flashing his highs at me again (i have no idea what that was for).

anyways, i think tommorrow i'm gonna adjust my timing and give her a good tuneup

I have just one word.

SWEET!

I love good old V8 muscle. I wish I could take a spin in the Cuda right now.

nice. i remember she was running 11's, but you seem to have done work since then. Have you clocked your time since? Also do you have HID's? I know those old muscle cars use those circle headlights so you could replace those cheaply and easily with those 7000k output HID's. When I was lookng at restoring a 69 SS i found a website that sells them i forget where, but they're those really blue ones that light up the road real well, i think the new bimmers have them. anyways nice car and nice kill, keep up the good work.

those hid lights would be a stupid idea.
you can see fine with the stock light setup unless your blind, and what do you think cops look for when they are cruising through a race scene? if they see bright blinding lights they think teenager = racer.
if you wanna put out a signal saying 'arrest me' than that's fine, but when you regularly run an 11 second car on the street the last thing you want is the cops catching you in a race

umm maybe you misinterpreted what I'm referencing... I'm not speaking of colored lights, these are plasma High Intensity Discharge lights. They appear blue in color due to the nature of the bulbs they use, but they light the road MUCH better. Lexus, mercedes, BMW, ferrari -- all HID stock. It's as un ricer as you can get, it's merely new technology in headlights. The new ones give even better visability they're the 7000k output. But it's not what you think, if you're in front of them they wont blind you more than regular headlights would, and they use less power from the alternator. they just light it up better, i dont know the technology behind it but they work great. Heres a website on them: http://www.seriousauto.com/lighting/HID/hid-faq.htm

like it says the only issues with glare is if they're not properly fitted but thats not an issue with circular lights.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/question387.htm

that details how they work better. they also last longer i believe. heres some good example pictures on how they light better:

i haven't done anything more to the engine yet.... i've gotta make some more money.... the work that was done was to the underside of the car. mainly just reinforcing and strengthening around the trailing arms and the rear axle.

I've seen HID kits for vintage muscle cars- particularly the 55-57 Chevys, but it's very expensive (at least the kit i've seen is) and there are many other things i'd rather do. it looks great on certain cars, though. i've seen some hot rodded '55 chevs with HIDs and it looks ok.
