ok purchased a 2002 venture 7 months ago. 41,000 at present at least 6 times venture has stalled. No sputtering or anything. Once when I put foot on brake to go to reverse, once when crossing a major intersection. I have NO warning. Fuel filter was changed 2 months ago. Fuel injector cleaner added. Does it very unpredictably. Any advice? I know the mechanic thinks I am nuts, but i need safety for my family.HELP

Mine does this when I use bargain gas.... Both times in the last year when it's done this, it was when I used cheap gas. I only use Chevron now and haven't had any more stalling... (and no, I don't work for the gas industry or Chevron)...
Keep us posted if you find it's something else... |

Re: 2002 stalling venture
I know this post is somewhat old and you might not need this information anymore, but I had a similar problem and someone here on the forums told me to put diametric creme on the connection below the driver's side rear door that powers the fuel pump. I have not had the problem since. It seems that the connection is vulnerable to getting wet and can cause the fuel pump to randomly lose power. I hope this helps. If you need more specifics about where the connection is let me know.

You are right, I should have said "dielectric grease". Don't know where I got diametric creme from...sounds like something medical.

Re: 2002 stalling venture
The plug is underneath the car (chassis) just behind the driver seat as described in an other post above. I just had the problem the day before yesterday: the van would not start, I thought it was the fuel pump. I got the car towed home. I cleaned that connector and it is running fine now. I just returned the fuel pump I had purchased - saved $270 !

Re: 2002 stalling venture
I probably should update my earlier post. I found that it wasn't the brand of gas I purchased, but whether or not I filled the tank too full. If I try to put too much gas in the tank (when putting in more than when it first clicks off), then it's almost guaranteed that it'll stall within the first seven miles after filling up... when I don't overfill, it doesn't stall. Not sure why.
However, I am dealing with a fuel gauge needle that is no longer accurate after it goes below half tank... after that point it'll bounce around all over the place, but I think there's another thread around here that talks about this. |
