Hi-Perf. 6-8cyl Swap Update:by request (PICS)
sorry folks... I just now saw the new messages... been busy lately with school, my two jobs, and tryin to get some work in on my car... so i haven't been on here much. i apologize.
![]() ![]() Well she is on the road now (SEE PICS BELOW).... I been driving her around for the last week and a half. It's a lot of fun! Well, after I got it running, I drove it for a day before the tranny started slipping (badly) and reverse didn't work. So I sent it to this guy who does nothing but trannys (I didn't feel like disassembling it again) and got it back from him after 2weeks. He complimented me on how well I put the tranny together. Turns out, as I suspected, there where just a couple of valves that got stuck (happens sometimes... they just need to be smoothed out with sandpaper) and I put this tiny reverse boost valve insert in backwards (I couldn't remember how I pulled it out so I took a guess). He fixed those 2 things for me for $170. A small price to pay... in my opinion (by the way... if you need a tranny guy in missouri let me know... real nice/honest guy and cheap). I got my exhaust hooked up just temporarily (so I don't get tickets)... to the factory y-pipe and the flowmaster muffler. Sounds similar to when the 6cyl was on it but you can now tell its a v8 by the loping sound. I cait wait to get the new exhaust... cause this is cutting my power in half (but it's still f**king fast!). I'm thinking 1/2 chamber flowmasters cause they are small enough to fit true duals under there, but this might be too loud. I was also wanting to switch to magnaflow, but don't know if I'll find them small enough to fit duals, and quiet enough. The other problem is finding someone who will do it without installing cats. Or maybe I will buy hollow cats off the net, anybody know where I can get those cheap?? Anyway, as far as driving it... it's very tempting to floor it all the time. The tires screech up to third gear and every shift will throw u back in the seat! Even at partial throttle (almost no throttle) the first-second shift snaps your head back even at 5-10mph (if I have the B&M trick shift in.... without it, it's a really smooth part throttle shift). Because I still have the factory open differential, WOT shifts make the whole rear of the car jerk to the right (which is fun) almost as if the rear right wheel is going to take off by itself. (on a sidenote: one night I was showing my friend what it could do and the torque caused 2 lug nut studs to break off the right wheel). I think the performance is just ridiculous considering how fast it is and the timing hasn't been tweaked, it's running waaaay to rich, and the exhaust really restricting a lot of power! From the seat of my pants I would estimate it's somewhere around 260-310hp right now. I haven't made any mods to the rear suspension yet, cause I want to do it all at the same time (I'm still trying to figure out what rear-end setup I want to go with... and suggestions?). So right now there is a ton of wheel hop on hard launches and low-gear downshifts. Okay THE FUN STUFF: here are things that I have done/bought since last update: *B&M RATCHET SHIFTER - this is very nice... cause the tranny shifts so quick, this makes it like driving a manual transmission just without a clutch.... the shifts are instant. money well spent *2nd HANDLE -for above shifter. this one has a button on the side of it where your thumb goes. This will be my nitrous activation switch. *3" inch COWL INDUCTION HOOD - not on yet. haven't had time... been driving hoodless. its a 15 pound fiberglass lift-off hood. *GAUGE FACES - match my cd player perfectly (by coincidence). *PUSH-START BUTTON - (red button in pic), not wired yet, but will be nice *GAUGES - tach (interior). voltmeter, water temp, and oil pressure gauges will be in the cowl opening (where the Air/Fuel ratio gauge is right now, the one with the green light on it in the pic) That's about it. It gets lot of attention (maybe cause the missing hood, shiny engine, and rumbling noise). I couldn't be happier, but I still have a crapload of work I need to do to it.

Re: Hi-Perf. 6-8cyl Swap Update:by request (PICS)
by the way paying for gas sucks!!! At one point I had to pay $47 to fill the tank. And driving to school and home, I have to refill every 2-3days. When I started this project, those gas prices would have been reasonable for a daily driver. But, keep in mind it's still not tuned yet, running rich, the choke is always open, and gas prices are headed back down now. so we'll see. I'm thinking about getting a 1989-90 honda civic hatchback... like I used to have. better gas mileage.
There are no laws about driving without a hood. There's little danger in not having one....hoods are just for looks. I've been pulled over once since I been driving with no hood and he didn't even mention it. Just gave me a warning for my 1% window tint. |

Re: Hi-Perf. 6-8cyl Swap Update:by request (PICS)
thanks all.
no fuel injection because, factory FI systems are costly to upgrade in order to reach the performance level I wanted to be at and because aftermarket fuel injection is expensive. carbuerters are relative simple and inexpensive and can easily get to the 400hp mark I want to be at.

Sweet ride, i think it looks good just in primer. I wouldn't even put the a/c compressor back on. Simplify the engine compartment with just that awesome engine sittin there.
