The infamous Check Engine Light strikes again

'01 Rodeo V6. Had the IMG changed (7/04) along with the EGR valve (3/05) and the throttle position sensor and the accelerator pedal position sensors (7/05).
Started it up after work today, all was fine. Had the A/C on, all was still okay. About 2 minutes into my drive home, the CEL started flashing, but only when I am accelerating. As soon as I begin to coast or brake, it goes off. Then when I accelerate again, it flashes again. Does this in all gears. Doesn't make a difference if the A/C is off.
Any ideas?
I can truly say I am fed up with this vehicle.

*FLASHING* check engine light indicates misfiring is going on. A big cause for this is the use of non OEM sparkplugs on the newer 3.2's.
G/luck

It still was flashing after I shut it down for a minute and restarted it. I just started it up again a little while ago and revved the engine, the CEL did NOT come on.
I have yet to change the original spark plugs that came with the truck. I have 52,000 miles on it. According to the owner's manual, the plugs should last me 100,000 miles. I know many of you strongly disagree with that.

Re: The infamous Check Engine Light strikes again

The only time I had a flashing CEL was when I cleaned my EGR and my throttle body (with carb cleaner).

I wish you luck (or whomever) trys to remove the plugs at 100k.

When was the last time you changed the tranny fluid?

Tranny, differential & rear end fluid all checked by the dealer 3/05.
What is the general consensus (mileage wise) on this board for replacing the tranny fluid? I have 52k on it now.
ALso, when do you recommend I change the plugs?

Re: The infamous Check Engine Light strikes again

Tranny fluid: Most change it at 25-35K intervals. I"ve seen others go 75-100k and many times they need new trannies then.

The tranny on these trucks are great as long as you keep up on the flushes (I would read the FAQ's).

As for plugs most go about 50k when changing them.

I change mine at about 50k and they still looked good. If you want you can pull them, regap and then put some dielectric grease and anti-seaze on them and put them back it (but if you are taking them out, why not just put some new ones back it).

Another reason for you CEL may be a plugged EGR valve or EGR tube, both are very common problems.

Check out the FAQ's for a method to clean it yourself (take under an hour and you only need one can of carb cleaner).

Just ordered a set of new plugs from spark plugs dot com. The Denso part # k16prp11 you list in the FAQ's, is it the same as those the dealer will sell you? (but for more money)
Will also have the tranny fluid/filter changed.
Thanks.

Re: The infamous Check Engine Light strikes again

yup thoes are the plugs. I order and installed the same ones last year.

Isuzu's will last a long long time as long as you change the fluids and keep that EGR clean.
